Went the Day Well?

(1942)Directed by Alberto Cavalcanti92 minWar, Thriller
“Went the day well? We died and never knew. But, well or ill, freedom we died for you.”

Oliver Wilsford (Leslie Banks) is a respected figure in Bramley End, a quiet village in southern England where nothing much happens. When a column of soldiers arrives, claiming to be Royal Engineers, the villagers take them in and billet them in their own homes. Alberto Cavalcanti keeps the hosts and their guests at the same tables, and the two sides live in each other's houses with no choice but to trust or to fight.
