West Beirut

“Growing up is only half the battle.”

In 1975, the civil war has just begun in Beirut, and Tarek (Rami Doueiri) and his friend Omar (Mohammad Chamas) decide to cross from the Muslim west of the city into the Christian east. Ziad Doueiri follows the two boys as they cut through a divided city, Tarek carrying a camera and a teenager's nerve. Tarek wants the war to be an adventure, and he is still too young to see that it has already started charging him for it.
