“A city divided. Their love will challenge everything.”

Tony (Ansel Elgort) wants a clean start in New York after a stretch away from the Jets, the gang he helped found with Riff (Mike Faist). Then he meets María (Rachel Zegler), the younger sister of Bernardo (David Alvarez), who leads the rival Sharks. Spielberg stages the songs and dances across a city of rubble and tenements, and what holds the film together is the pull between Tony and María, which neither of their families will accept.
