What Doesn't Kill You

“Everyone has a choice. Every choice has a consequence.”

Paulie (Ethan Hawke) and Brian (Mark Ruffalo) grew up together in South Boston, and the crimes they commit to get by don't feel like a choice so much as the next thing on the street. Brian Goodman, directing his own story from his years in the Irish Mob, keeps the film close to the neighborhood and the people in it. What holds it together is the friendship between the two men, which bends under every job and every night they bring home.
