Nick Marshall (Mel Gibson), a cocky Chicago ad executive, gets zapped by a bathtub electrical accident and wakes up able to hear women's thoughts. He uses the gift to steal ideas from his new boss, Darcy McGuire (Helen Hunt), positioning himself for a promotion she deserves. As Nick angles his way closer to her schemes, he begins to actually listen to what Darcy thinks beyond the boardroom, and discovers someone he didn't know how to see before.
