What's the Matter with Helen?

(1971)Directed by Curtis Harrington101 min · GThriller, Horror
“So you met someone and now you know how it feels. Goody, Goody.”

Two sons are locked up for a murder the whole country knows about, and their mothers, Adelle (Debbie Reynolds) and Helen (Shelley Winters), leave home for Hollywood to start over. They open a dance school for children who want to tap their way to stardom, and Helen carries the strain of that fresh start behind a brittle smile. Curtis Harrington shoots the 1970s Los Angeles in faded, grainy color and lets the unease build slowly.
