When Marnie Was There

(2014)Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi103 min · PGAnimation, Drama, Family
“Promise we'll remain a secret, forever.”

Anna Sasaki (Sara Takatsuki) wants nobody to get close, and being sent to the countryside for her health doesn't change that. She keeps to herself until she notices the abandoned mansion and then Marnie (Kasumi Arimura), a girl who seems to live there. Hiromasa Yonebayashi follows Anna as she keeps going back, unsure whether Marnie is real, needing her either way.
