Germany, 1944. Leyna (Amandla Stenberg) is fifteen, the daughter of a white German mother and a black African father, and her ancestry makes her a target in the only country she knows. Amma Asante follows her as she meets Lutz (George MacKay), a gentle Hitler Youth member whose father is a prominent Nazi soldier. The two are drawn toward each other anyway, each one a danger to the other.
