Where the Red Fern Grows

Billy Coleman (Joseph Ashton) is a boy in the Ozark Mountains during the Great Depression, and for two years he works and saves every dollar toward a pair of coonhound pups. Once he has them, he trains Old Dan and Little Ann and takes them hunting through the river bottoms of Cherokee country. Lyman Dayton and Sam Pillsbury keep it all low to the ground, the boy and his two dogs moving through the river bottoms together.
