“Your best friend could be your worst enemy.”

In 1950s America, the comedy team of Lanny (Kevin Bacon) and Vince (Colin Firth) breaks up at the height of its fame, and nobody will say why. Years later the reporter Karen (Alison Lohman) starts digging, and Atom Egoyan follows her through the two men's guarded memories. The partners who once finished each other's jokes now hold the same secret from opposite sides.
