“Suspense as startling as a strangled scream!”

Edward Mobley (Dana Andrews) is a newsman with a steady name in the city, and he is handed a story nobody at the paper can leave alone. A killer called "The Lipstick Killer" is working the city, and the rival newspaper men are racing one another to name him first. Fritz Lang keeps the pressure on Mobley and on Mark Loving (George Sanders), two men chasing the same answer.
