“Tomorrow she will know what she did tonight!!”

Ann Sutton (Gene Tierney), the wife of a Los Angeles psychoanalyst, is caught shoplifting, and the hypnotist who sees it, David Korvo (José Ferrer), sets about making use of her. Otto Preminger follows her as one of Korvo's former patients turns up murdered with Ann still at the scene. Her husband (Richard Conte) spends his days explaining other people's minds, and the film is about how little anyone can see of what is happening in the one beside them.
