Whisky Galore!

Captain Paul Waggett (Basil Radford), the stiff Home Guard commander on a small Scottish island, has no patience for local habits. The islanders have run dry of whisky under wartime rationing until a ship runs aground nearby with 50,000 cases in its hold. Alexander Mackendrick, in his first film as director, plays the island's schemes against Waggett and the Customs men as an ordinary neighborly business.
