Kathy Bostock (Hayley Mills) wants badly to meet Jesus, and when she finds a bearded stranger lying in her father's barn on a remote Lancashire farm, she decides she already has. Her younger brother and sister take her word for it, and the three keep him secret from Mr. Bostock (Bernard Lee) and the grown-ups. Bryan Forbes sets it all on the farm, with the stranger, Arthur Alan Blakey (Alan Bates), lying in the straw while the children bring him food and wait.
