Ned Fleming (Bryan Cranston) flies his family out to California for Christmas, planning to finally meet the boyfriend his daughter Stephanie (Zoey Deutch) keeps talking about. Laird Mayhew (James Franco) turns out to be a tech millionaire who swears constantly, and he mostly wants to ask Ned for permission to marry her. John Hamburg sets two men against each other, with Stephanie standing in the middle of her father and the man she loves.
