Widow Clicquot

“There is hope, however unpredictable.”

Why would a widow with no standing take over a failing wine house? That is the question hanging over Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot (Haley Bennett) after the death of her husband François (Tom Sturridge). Thomas Napper follows her into a trade that shuts out women, where she is told her place is to mourn, and the film keeps asking what a woman is allowed to own.
