“No one is above the law.”

Texas Ranger Samantha Payne wants to close a 15-year-old missing person case, and the evidence she turns up points to a ranch belonging to the wealthy Scott Briggs (Robert Duvall). Robert Duvall, directing his final film, keeps the Briggs family under her gaze as the estranged son Ben (James Franco) comes home in the middle of her investigation. It is a story about how long a family can hold a secret, and what it does to them to keep it.
