“It's all about young people and their growing pains!”

Glenn Tyler (Elvis Presley) comes from a broken family and has a temper that keeps landing him in trouble. A court-appointed counselor, Irene Sperry (Hope Lange), reads what he writes and tells him he has a real gift for it. Philip Dunne directs from a Clifford Odets screenplay, keeping Glenn's first stab at a writing life tangled up with the women around him.
