Will Our Heroes Be Able to Find Their Friend Who Has Mysteriously Disappeared in Africa?

Fausto Di Salvio (Alberto Sordi) is a rich Italian businessman fed up with his work, his family and the society that keeps him in them. He drags his accountant Ubaldo Palmarini (Bernard Blier) to Africa to look for Oreste Sabatini (Nino Manfredi), a brother-in-law who vanished there in mysterious circumstances. Ettore Scola sets the search under a hard, bleached sun, the two city men in their travel clothes, the vanished friend nowhere in sight.
