“In the game of life, you can't lose 'em all.”

Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti) is a struggling attorney who coaches the high school wrestling team on the side and can barely keep his practice open. He takes on guardianship of an elderly client, Leo Poplar (Burt Young), for the monthly fee, and then Leo's teenage grandson turns up and turns out to be a gifted wrestler. Tom McCarthy keeps Mike's pride and his debts in the same frame as his wife Jackie (Amy Ryan) watches him decide what he can live with.
