Wind from the East

(1970)Directed by Jean-Pierre Gorin, Jean-Luc Godard, Gérard Martin100 minDrama, Western
““WARNING TO MILITANTS: WATCH OUT. REFLECT. BE EARLY. BE LATE. THINK! MANUFACTURE. SIMPLIFY. BUILD. WAIT. .”

A Northern Ranger (Gian Maria Volonté) rides through a staged western landscape while voices over the images take apart every convention of the cinema that made him. Jean-Luc Godard and Jean-Pierre Gorin, working as the Dziga Vertov Group, put a Revolutionary (Anne Wiazemsky) in the frame, with a debate about what a revolutionary film could look like running underneath. Every shot is an argument, and the group risks having no cinema left to make.
