Wings

Nadezhda Petrukhina (Maya Bulgakova) was a fighter pilot in the war, and now she runs a provincial school, where her habits of service and obedience sit badly with peacetime. The memory of flying keeps pulling her back to the sky she lost, and her daughter Tanya (Zhanna Bolotova) can see it. Larisa Shepitko, making her first feature after film school, shoots in black and white and keeps the camera close on Bulgakova's face.
