Witches

Elizabeth Sankey's film begins with a question about her grandmother, a woman who died before Sankey could really know her. She gathers people who knew different versions of this woman, friends, relatives, even a man her grandmother loved, and asks them to remember her aloud, their voices layering into a portrait made of contradictions. What emerges is less a single life than the distance between who someone was and who remains in the people left behind.
