Matthew Hopkins (Vincent Price) travels from town to town in 1645 England, offering his services as a witch hunter while the civil war leaves the country without any law to stop him. Michael Reeves follows him through villages where frightened peasants will believe whatever they are told. Richard Marshall (Ian Ogilvy), a Roundhead soldier, is bound to Sara (Hilary Dwyer), and Hopkins is closing in on her.
