Pat Jamieson (Spencer Tracy) is a scientist in wartime Washington, DC, with a research project that needs a lab and someone to keep his notes in order. Jamie Rowan (Katharine Hepburn), his assistant, proposes a marriage with no romance in it, a practical arrangement between two people who have decided they are finished with love. Harold S. Bucquet directs, and the bargain they strike has to survive living under the same roof.
