Kit Madden (Claudette Colbert) wants the best-selling novel she wrote to become a movie, and she is on a train to Hollywood to see that happen. In the club car she meets two Marines, Rusty (John Wayne) and Dink (Don DeFore), who have no idea who she is and think little of the book's ideas. Mervyn LeRoy builds the comedy on the fact that she likes the man who dislikes her work.
