Wolf Totem

Chen Zhen (William Feng) is a Beijing student sent to Inner Mongolia in 1969, and what he wants most is to understand the wolves that the herdsmen both fear and revere. He lives with the old herder Bilig (Baasanjav Mijid) and learns the grassland's rules while the government's reach moves up from the south. Jean-Jacques Annaud sets Chen beside Yang Ke (Shawn Dou Xiao), his friend and fellow student, and the two see the same animals very differently.
