“They can hear a cloud pass overhead, the rhythm of your blood. They can track you by yesterday's shadow. They can tear the scream from your throat.”

Two bodies turn up in New York, torn apart in a way that looks like the work of feral animals, and Detective Dewey Wilson (Albert Finney) is handed the case. He works it alongside the criminologist Rebecca Neff (Diane Venora), and an old legend about wolf-spirits starts to surface in their evidence. Michael Wadleigh leaves Finney at the center of the frame, tired and rumpled, with the murders still unexplained.
