Phillip Gerber (Benno Fürmann) is a sharp, self-satisfied car salesman who wants his life to go on exactly as it was. Then, in one inattentive moment at the wheel, he hits a boy on a bike and drives away without stopping. Christian Petzold follows him as the guilt pulls him toward the boy's family and Laura Reiser (Nina Hoss), with a confession that gets harder to avoid.
