In 1964 England, the tycoon Charles Richmond (Ralph Richardson) rules his household from a wheelchair, and his nephew Anthony (Sean Connery) wants the fortune that comes with him. Anthony hires a nurse, Maria (Gina Lollobrigida), and sets about persuading her to marry him. Basil Dearden stages it as a tight, closed-in thriller, and he lets the money in every room do the talking.
