Four astronauts on the first return flight from Mars hit a time warp and crash on an Earth they do not recognize, the air breathable but nothing else familiar. John Borden (Hugh Marlowe) and Herbert Ellis (Rod Taylor) cross a surface ruled by disfigured, cave-dwelling mutants, while the descendants of the survivors live underground. Edward Bernds' 26th century is dying out for lack of water, air and sunlight, and the crew may be all that is left to change it.
