“Man to Boy, Boy to Icon”

London in 1980, and young George O'Dowd (Douglas Booth) keeps baffling his parents with his love of frocks and make-up. He moves into a squat with Peter, who dresses as Marilyn Monroe and goes by Marilyn (Freddie Fox), and the two of them start turning heads at Steve Strange's Blitz Club, where George works the cloakroom. Julian Jarrold stages the squat and the club in grainy, lived-in textures, so the glamour looks homemade and the loneliness stays close.
