Yankee Doodle Dandy

(1942)Directed by Michael Curtiz126 minDrama, Music
“Get ready to Laugh, to Sing, to Shout! ...For here comes Uncle Sam's Star Spangled Yankee Doodle Dandy!”

George M. Cohan (James Cagney) is a composer, playwright, dancer and singer, the kind of performer who seems to have been born onstage, and his father Jerry (Walter Huston) agrees. Michael Curtiz directs the story of his career in 1942, with Joan Leslie as Mary and Richard Whorf as his partner Sam Harris. Cagney taps and struts in the footlights, his hat tilted, his face lit and grinning at the house.
