Yentl

“In a time when the world of study belonged only to men, there lived a girl who dared to ask..."why?"”

In a Jewish village in Eastern Europe, where girls are forbidden to study scripture, Yentl (Barbra Streisand) has only her father's books and his quiet teaching. She cuts her hair and dresses as a boy to enter a yeshiva, where she meets Avigdor (Mandy Patinkin) and the woman he is promised to, Hadass (Amy Irving). Streisand, directing for the first time, also sings, and Yentl keeps her secret and her hunger to learn.
