“War Is Hell!”

Captain Langford (Stanley Baker) leads a small British patrol through the Burma Campaign of 1942, cut off from the army and pressed hard by the enemy. Val Guest keeps the story close and cramped, working from a BBC teleplay that drew on a real war crime. Langford and the Padre (Guy Rolfe) end up on opposite sides of what a soldier may do to survive, and the quarrel sits between them at every step.
