Sammy (Laura Linney) is a single mother raising her young son Rudy (Rory Culkin) in a small Catskill Mountains town, and her days are settled and orderly. Then her younger brother Terry (Mark Ruffalo), a drifter she hasn't seen in years, shows up with a duffel bag and no plan. Kenneth Lonergan leaves them in Sammy's kitchen, two siblings who share a past and no longer know how to speak to each other.
