Why does a house full of music, with Aunt Jessie (Ethel Barrymore) and three grown sisters under one roof, go quiet around the arrival of two men? Laurie Tuttle (Doris Day) is the youngest, and she meets Alex Burke (Gig Young), a charming composer, and then Barney Sloan (Frank Sinatra), a cynical arranger who trusts no one's good news. Gordon Douglas keeps the family close, and Laurie has to decide which of them she believes.
