Taki Tachibana (voice: Ryunosuke Kamiki), a high school student in Tokyo, wakes one morning in an unfamiliar body in a rural town. Mitsuha Miyamizu (voice: Mone Kamishiraishi) experiences the same rupture in reverse, finding herself in Tokyo with no memory of how she arrived. Shinkai renders their scramble across each other's lives with precise animation, capturing the small collisions that follow when two strangers inhabit one another's days.
