The stock-exchange crash takes everything from a 1920s millionaire (Pierre Étaix), and he joins up with an equestrienne (Luce Klein) to work as a circus clown. Pierre Étaix directs and stars, following him from the twenties into the sixties. Money buys one kind of life and the ring buys another, and the film keeps showing how little the first has to do with happiness.
