Mark (Mark Frechette) is a college dropout in Los Angeles, wanted by the authorities for allegedly killing a policeman during a student riot. Out in Death Valley he crosses paths with Daria (Daria Halprin), an anthropology student who works for a property developer, and their romance comes on fast and without caution. Michelangelo Antonioni sets the counterculture against the American desert and asks you to look at what each of them is running from.
