Zama
Why does a letter of transfer never come? Don Diego de Zama (Daniel Giménez Cacho), an officer of the Spanish crown in a remote South American colony in the late eighteenth century, keeps waiting for a posting somewhere that matters. Lucrecia Martel, adapting Antonio di Benedetto's 1956 novel, leaves him to petty politics, small humiliations and a growing lust and paranoia. By the end Zama is still in the colony, still waiting, still a servant of the crown.
