Nobody explains why a blind masseur has sworn to keep a young girl alive, only that Zatoichi (Shintarō Katsu) has given his word and means to hold it. It leaves him with no allies in the middle of a bloody turf war. Kimiyoshi Yasuda lets the road wear on, and the only person Zatoichi has to answer to is Omitsu (Shiho Fujimura), the girl he is bound to.
