Zorba the Greek

“Life. Lust. Love. Zorba.”

On the island of Crete, Basil (Alan Bates), a buttoned-up young English writer, arrives on business and falls in with Alexis Zorba (Anthony Quinn), a loud, earthy Cretan peasant. Michael Cacoyannis follows the two men as Zorba pulls the stiff intellectual into the village, among them Madame Hortense (Lila Kedrova). Mikis Theodorakis's score runs under them, and Zorba keeps moving in the island's open air, his arms spread wide.
