VISIBLE CRAFT
hyper edited
Films in which rapid, discontinuous editing is the primary formal language — cutting at a rate and rhythm that fragments time, space, and consciousness into shards, using split screens, subliminal inserts, jump cuts, and percussive montage to externalize psychological states of obsession, addiction, panic, or ecstatic overwhelm directly onto the viewer's nervous system. Distinguished from long-take-immersion (which generates meaning through sustained duration and unbroken flow) by treating the cut itself as the expressive unit rather than the shot; distinct from kinetic-urgency (a pace register where speed is felt through action and momentum) by requiring that fragmentation be a foregrounded formal strategy — the editing architecture is the film's argument, not merely its tempo.
